Hello i just did a grand Cherokee steering wheel swap and after completion i have play in my steering wheel shaft. I can move the steering wheel side to side without turning the wheel. I torqued down the center nut to 40 ft pounds also so i do think it is a loose steering wheel. It feels as if it is coming from the column itself right where the clockspring is, Do these have a bearing kit that they sell and can you replace the bearing? Thanks

I also am having this issue minus swapping my steering wheel, it's as if the column itself is loose internally, but from the outside of the firewall where the steering shaft runs to the steering box it's tight, I went to the junk yard a few weeks back and checked out a steering column on a 98 model and its like the bearing behind the clockspring is pressed into the column, which made me think it would be easier to switch out steering columns with a donor rather than hunting down parts that probably aren't even in existence anymore to rebuild my steering column.
