That's really weird. I have a 2001 XJ 2WD and I have a Chrysler 8.25. Did they just arbitrarily place Chrysler 8.25s and Dana 35s, or were certain differentials on certain packages?

With the uncertain history of a used vehicle it's more than possible someone swapped in a well worn D35 just to get rid of it, who knows? If you go looking for an 8.25 pull the cover and look at the fluid before you buy it, would not be a bad idea to replace the seals before installation either.

Ok so I'm sure it's a Dana 35 that what are your suggestions swap it for a 8.25 but if I do that will and change the driveshaft what will happen to the front diff and the gearing lol idk if I just made that word up. But seriously what's the procedure if you guys know.

Swap it for a 97+ 8.25. They have 29 spline shafts. Unsure if youll need to change drive shafts but you could get one at the junkyard. I swapped my 35 out for an xj dana 44 and didnt have to do anything with the drive shaft
