2001 XJ: Which block is the best for me?
Hello everyone,
I know this topic has been covered a bunch but I just had a question on engine block compatibility and differences.
I'm currently shopping for a new block to rebuild for my 01 XJ. The original block it had has a casting # of 53010449AA with a NVH stamp. From my understanding those # indicates a 2000-2004 casting and it is a reinforced block (The NVH stamp).
I have 3 options right now for new blocks. All 3 are in the same condition: rusty, greasy, and have been sitting forever. Option #1 is a 2001 53010449 block. This one is missing the AA and NVH markings leading me to believe it is NOT reinforced. Option #2 is a 1996 53020569 NVH block. Last option is a 2000 block with the exact same markings as my original.
Option 3 seems like the obvious choice but the huge downside it that I would have to pull that one from the vehicle whereas all the others are already out and are listed for cheap.
What does everyone think my best option is? The 1996 is the most appealing to me but I'm worried about the lack of the AA stamp that my original has. I'd like to swap a good amount of parts from my original motor into the new block. Any help is greatly appreciated!
