2001 XJ Cherokee AC Vacuum Low
Hi all,
First post on this forum, but I've been lurking for a few months now, and, thanks to this forum, I've had great advice for dealing w/ snapped screws while putting in new shocks, rear main seal removal, and a bunch of other work that I've done on my XJ.
Quick question:
I've installed a new AC drier, compressor, and condenser as well as a new AC line (the one that connects from the condenser to the spot below the windshield, I'm not familiar with what it's called.)
I'm pulling a vacuum on my AC system, and it goes to around 23-25hg, and it's able to stay there when I turn off the vacuum. However, the videos that I've been watching regarding recharging ACs tell me that I should be able to pull a vacuum all the way to 30hg or somewhere around there.
Any thoughts on this?
Additional details:
- Rented vacuum pump from AutoZone, replaced pump oil, pump has sufficient oil. Just in case the vacuum gauge was broken, checked on two different sets of gauges.

Sounds like a very slight leak... hopefully at an o-ring and not a pinhole in your evaporator.
Also, double check the fittings on your gauges... I didn't have mine tight enough and that's exactly what happened... pulled and held just below the full vacuum for an hour or two before I could see the vacuum level slipping on the gauges.
