Default 2001 Xj cracked head

Just thought I would post pics of my problem. Started with unexplained coolant loss. No coolant in oil, none under oil cap or on ground. Then it started to misfire every now and then. Pulled valve cover to confirm.

Just a hairline crack

Barely seeping coolant. But you can see the green

Goes all the way across between cylinders 3&4

Just enough to cause intermittent overheat issues and misfires.

That was about 10 days ago. Have a new Clearwater head on it now. What a PITA. But all done now and it’s running great

what did the clearwater head cost?
I used a Tuppy head from the JY -$67 plus $150 getting it cleaned, checked, valve job.

Couldn’t find a used head around here that wasn’t another 0331. Ended up trading with a guy I know that had a new one sitting in his shop. $200 and a old Harley wide glide front end that I had.

Put in new 3 row rad, water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, housing, new fuel rail and injectors and a trans cooler also. Running great now

Is the heat sheild on the engine mount stock?
My 2001 does not have that and I do not see it in the 2001 parts manual under exhaust or engine mounting?

For the engine mount? Yes, that is the original one. I’ve had this since it’s new, never replaced it. Probably should have lol

Hmm… I can’t find it either. I bought this thru base exchange auto place overseas in Germany, right before I retired from Army and came back stateside in 2001. Just assumed they all had it
