Default 2001 XJ current draw issue

Hello,

I've just purchased a 2001 Jeep XJ 4.0 automatic. It came with a dead battery which I have replaced with a new one. The car has been sitting in the garage for 2 days and out of interest I tested the new battery, which was sitting at 12.2v. and my Optimate said it needs saving and charging again..

I've done an amp draw test to see what I could find and what I see is the IGN ACC/RUN 40A fuse seems to be the culprit. I was getting a 0.8 amp draw and once that was pulled it went down to 0.02 amp. I did at first think it was the radio, as the previous owner has a sound system in it which has been removed, but who knows about their wiring..

Does anyone know off hand what that fuse is powering? I'm guessing ignition..
I also notice in the doors the little green lights on the door and window controls stay on 24/7, doors open or closed etc, is that normal? that could also be a culprit
What is your normal amp draw with everything off?

Thanks in advance

Bottom left 40A. Once pulled the amp draw went from 0.80 amps to 0.02 amps

All those lights stay on 24/7 (sorry they not on now as I've disconnected the battery)

Fuses 2 and 3 (yours) are the ignition switch. Anything else staying on?
Those door console lights shouldn't stay on, so it acts like you have turned the key.

The 0.02A would be more normal to see, its usually a few milli amps iirc depending what's installed aftermarket.

nothing else staying on as far as I can see...

I'm not sure how to isolate those door lights though, couldn't find anything on the fuse box that describes it? Do you perhaps know what it could be called. Or maybe like you said the ignition is making them come on...

Hmm the little lights on the window switches are always on? Are the wires from door to frame getting chaffed?

free download and study the FSM is the best bet, for circuit diagrams, and the under dash fuses are where you need to head next, the A5 Operators Manual has them

remove the glovebox and underhood light if you have them, disconnect the overhead console if you have one, all known issues
