Default 2001 Xj electrical problems

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2001 XJ. Runs great but I'm having some electrical issues. Rear windows don't work, wiper fluid sprayer just stopped working, and the blinkers are starting get stuck off while switched on. I'm wondering if these issues are symptomatic of a general electrical issue and/or what's my basic course of action in repairing these things myself. I am also getting excessive buildup on the positive battery terminal and the air bag light is on if these are clues. Any advice Appreciated

Thanks

You'll need to be a lot more specific than "rear windows don't work"

As for the rest of it, you need to clean some connectors! Check this link out: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/cru...x-tips-153663/ items 1, 3, and 5 are pertinent. Your Jeep is two generations newer, however the concepts are the same. This is a reference of the ground points in your engine bay: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showpost....28&postcount=6 . The battery terminals and posts must be cleaned until they're shiny.

Your signal arm and air bag problems are likely due to a worn clock spring in the steering column, but let's start with the free maintenance first!

Thanks for the response. The window controls don't work. Don't seem to be getting power. As well as all the passenger controls switches and the rear switches on both sides. Thanks

Ah. Okay then, the power for all of the windows flows through that panel in the driver's door. The lock switch is a common failure, I still have yet to do mine lol. There's a way to bypass it by jumping the two pins with a wire if you don't want to shell out for a new module. Just don't use a paperclip like this dingbat, that's how fires get started: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/win...working-13287/ You can probably also clean the switch.

If the rears aren't working from even the driver's controls I'd suspect the wiring between the door and body. It's pretty common that, over time, they just get brittle and snap inside. You won't see this on the outside of em but they will show zero continuity, or at the least high resistance, when tested. You've probably noticed the lights in that little module changing intensity when you hit buttons and the speaker in one of your doors has probably started to go out.

Hello again. I'm having an issue with my right tail light now. Brake lights work fine. Running tail light is out. Not the bulb or fuse. Thanks.
