2001 XJ p1694 + p1698, Runs, NO BUSS, killed 2nd ECU/PCM
Hey Y'all. Thanks for the support community.
I'm trying to troubleshoot a ECU/PCM frying issue.
2001 XJ, Auto, 4x4.
Gauges were "flickering" for a while in Speed & ODO, in increasing frequency over many miles. Then all gauges went dead with "NO BUSS" on ODO.
Gauge cluster test showed all gauges functional. Suspected a failed ECU/PCM. Bought a rebuilt online. Replaced the ECU/PCM. Everything seemed fine for about 20 miles.
Then it all started again. Flickering gauges, that soon failed intermittent, then went dead, and the "NO BUSS" alert came back.
The XJ still runs and drives, but a little rough.
I ran upgraded ground to chassis behind the gauges a while back, so I'm confident in proper grounding.
Codes off the DLC are P1694 & P1698.
The DLC has power to run the scan tool even when the key is out. (Should it do that?)
I'm suspecting a short somewhere in the harness.
I have another ECU in hand, but I'm afraid I have an underlying issue that will just fry the new ECU if I don't fix it first.
Does anyone have a detailed troubleshooting guide for p1694, p1698 and "NO BUSS"?
Hopefully, with detailed volts/ohms at the PCM and DLC connections.
Thanks!
