Default 2001 xj wont idle

hello, my 2001 Cherokee sport 4.0 auto had not been driven for a week , ran fine then, I tried to start it today and it started but wont idle. as soon as it starts it stalls when I get off of the gas, if I step it up with the gas pedal it seems to run , not missing or rough but not very drivable like that. any ideas? Dave

A week is not that long.

A few ideas:

Have battery checked
Clean IAC
Clean throttle body, especially around valve/plate
Check fuel pressure
Let us know.

Wondering...you didn't have a dead battery prior to this did you? Mine will do this if my battery dies until it relearns.

Did you clean the IAC as well as suggested?

To answer your question: I'd reckon the IAC has the 5 Volt reference going to it like most sensors.

do I need to remove the iac motor to clean or just squirt cleaner and air through the slot in the throttle body?

No better to just remove it ( 2 torx screws iirc) and clean it with parts cleaner and a little brush. Don't go all crazy on it just brush it till nice and clean, especially the 'rod'.

Thanks for getting back and good to hear the suggestions worked out. That makes this a thread with closure, which is always good.
