242 t-case in place of my 231
Im gonna be swaping in a 242 t-case in place of my 231. I know the 242 I will get has to have the same input spline count as what I have now ('91 AX-15 will have 23 spline I think...) but should I get a t-case thats in a 91-95 cherokee with a 5-speed? Or does it matter what tranny it had as long as the input spline count is the same? I know the newer cherokees have a different speedo input.
Also my cherokee is bone stock and didnt even come with a 4WD indicator light. Is there a way I can add this to my stock setup?

FYI if you use that T case behind a 5 speed in full time mode, you'll feel every bit of slack in the drive chain every time you let off the gas or get back on it. I think that's why they only come in autos

^^^XJdryva^^^ Ive read that to. Havent found too many well detailed write-ups on this swap yet. But I did read a couple swaps where everything went and felt smooth. Drove and ran just like the 231 was still there. I have a lot more research to do though. You can mix and match 242's from the jeep and the hummer and end up with a HEAVY DUTY case and much much stronger internals and 32 spline output.

^^^Gorillaxj... that part I quite dont know much about yet. Do 231s have different length inputs like the 242s? (I dont think they do?) Would I just try my best to match the length of both cases?

The important variations to look for in the 242 transfer case are in the input gear. The 242 comes in 21 spline and 23 spline versions with long, medium (rare) and short variations.
look here for full detailed explanation. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge...nput_gears.htm
