I suppose if the vehicle was in 4x4 Full time or even part time on ice say a frozen lake with enough torque, yeah you might have 2 wheel drive, one front wheel spinning, one back wheel spinning = no wheel drive.

On the other hand, if your rear axle is limited slip or a locker, you could have 3 wheel drive. If on a slippery enough frozen lake with enough torque, front wheel spinning, both rear wheels spinning = no wheel drive.

Someone asked on another forum about the FT vs PT components and rather than hotlinking to this thread and CCKen's pictures, I figured I'd add the info here.

If you look closely at the CCKen's 2nd picture in post #20, you'll see three sets of splines; a smaller one further in and then a pair at the top. The bottom set of splines engages the Rear Output Shaft (last image, just to the right of where the needle bearings ride); driving it in all modes. Bottom right you'll see the Shifter Slider with the collar on it for the shift fork to engage. In 2wd mode, the Shifter Slider is all the way in; the teeth on the slider engage just the the middle set of teeth. If you look a the last picture, dead center is a "pyramid shaped piece"; that's the internal piece in the 2nd picture that engages the Rear Output Shaft as mentioned above. Power in transferred from the Splined Floating "Shaft" (top left of last image in the bag) coming from the front, through the Shifter Slider, into the "pyramid shaped piece" and to the Rear Output Shaft.

In 4PT mode, the Shifter Slider is moved out, engaging both the upper and lower sets of teeth, driving both the "pyramid shaped piece" and the case of the 4PT planetary. In 4FT, the Shifter Slider moves out once again, engaging only the outer set of teeth. Power in transferred from the Splined Floating "Shaft", through the Shifter Slider, into the case of the 4PT planetary, through the bigger set of gears in the 2nd image, into the "pyramid shaped piece" mentioned before to drive the Rear Output Shaft (bottom of the stack), but also through the smaller set of gears and into the Front Output Sprocket Mount on the top of the stack (to the right in the last image). The Chain Sprocket engages the splines on top of the Front Output Sprocket Mount (see the snap ring groove). The needle bearings separating the whole assembly from the Rear Output Shaft ride inside of the Front Output Sprocket Mount and the underside of it is a female cone to ride on the "pyramid shaped piece", no bearings, oil only, but typically not moving much if your going straight on a perfect road. The 48/52 front/rear torque split is equal to the radius of the teeth on the "pyramid shaped piece" divided by the radius of those on the Front Output Sprocket Mount (evident in 3rd picture). # of teeth would also work since it's all 1:1.
