I would most likely have stayed at 4.5" too, as I liked the look and feel of that height. My nice Rusty's 4.5" lift didn't stay level when I started adding your normal basic off road accessories to my XJ so, I added the Daystar BB. which was 1 3/4" sapcer up front and 1" shackle out back. This leveled er out at, I'm guessing, around 6". NOW, I need the 33s to make it look right, again.....and let's face it the bigger the tires the more cool is Factored in.

Reading this tread is funny, It seems I'm going backwards from everyone here. I have 5" of lift with 33's and want to go down to 32's but slightly wider to 12.50 from 11.50. Too much tire is like a fat lady with a little hat. hahaha just my opinion.

It's called a warning before things get out of hand so the debate and discussion can continue.

Everyone has an opinion, but it seems that quite a few of the people on here get overly bent about people having a different opinion. I prefer stuffing large tires on small amounts of lift. It looks better to me, IMO, but that doesn't mean 4" with 31"s or 32"s is wrong and sucks. Personally, ktmracers XJ with the 37"s is probably the best looking XJ I have ever seen on this board. He has photographic proof that huge tires work and look sick with small lifts.

I am going to say it again keep the comments civil. Do no resort to name calling or flaming. Two posts have been removed and 1 edited for that reason. They served no point but to flame and well it's not going to be tolerated at all. Don't like it don't post. You have an issue with how the mods deal with things PM Nathan or Jon. Have a nice day.

I just bet KTMs XJ is a blast off road but, would be a little scarey at highway speeds.
I actually agree with the fender cutters to an extent. From what I've seen. Anything bigger than 33s, you would have to cut the fenders. There are 2 guys running 35s locally. They have, I would say, around 6" of lift but, they have cut their fenders and installed larger after market fender flares. The stock wheel openings just aren't long enough to stuff a 35 or bigger. I personally wouldn't want to extend the bump stops and restrict my ability to stuff tires. The ability to stuff a tire is equally important as the ability to hang a tire waaaay out when talking flex.

No the tires will hit the leaf springs w/o wheel spacers or off set wheels. the widest you can do is a 32x11.50 with stock wheels w/o hitting the springs. just get some spacers or after market wheels. Low COG FTW, there is no reason for some people we all see on the internet with 8+ inches of lift and 35s or other setups. I did 5.5" and 35s before i was better educated and now i feel i could have saved some $$ and gone 4.5" but now its sagged down to about 5" front and 4.5 ish rear and its still perfect. i just need to bump stop in the rear. Front is trimmed with bushwacker flares, (trimmed as well) stock bump stops on the post with 2" RE pucks on the axle and it only rubs on the back wall of the wheel well and 1 spot on the front of the wheel well.

IF I aired down they would though.
If your gonna wheel it, get wheels with more backspacing, definately.

Its fine on the street, in fact was a daily driver all summer into late fall, i take it on long trips (300-1000 miles round trip) at least once every 3 weeks in the summer.
bumpstopping does more than limit flex. it also reduces spring wear, and keeps your shocks from bottoming. I run 10" travel shocks (the same as most 4.5" lift kits) and am bumpstopped to about a half inch before the shocks bottom out, also keeps my 37's from rubbing. in back im bumpstopped to the point where my leafs are flat, which will help them have a long life of not sagging ( i didnt do anything to keep them from turning into an "s" shape though)
as for the ability to stuff is equal to ability to droop. look at any of the buggies competed in werock. most have only a few inches of uptravel, the rest down, stability> suspension compression imo
