Anybody else ever run into this? I have twice now, once on a low milage reman. engine replaced under warranty. Now a higher milage reman. in my very my own! No idea when this engine was replaced. Burned the distributor gear up and the drive gear on the cam. Cause? Oiling? Pressure was fine on the dash gauge and she never made any noises.

The oil pump drive tang doesn't look too good either. That thing should be getting an oil bath when the crank goes around. I would check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. That cam is toast anyhow so I don't imagine everything else is okay. It's near impossible to change the cam with the engine in the jeep and you may be looking at a total teardown anyway.

Look at the very bottom of the tang. Has it been contacting the oil pump? It shouldn't. If it does, it creates a bind on everything. I don't see a gasket on the dizzy either.
Did someone use RTV? I use an o-ring.

Never looked at pressure with a mechanical gauge, never had any signs I needed too. Think it's a little late now, especially since it won't run. I've got an engine out of a '98 I'm gonna swap in it for the time being. Don't know much about it other than it ran till it was wrecked. I'm just curious what caused this, I wanna rebuild it later. It had a gasket on it, I just picked most of it off before these pictures.
