4.0 HO vs regular 4.0

17 less hp and about the same less torque for the Renix motors, but the renix has its powr a little lower down.
I like the renix, less problems than my girlfriends 96 and almost everything can be tested with a multimeter.

From Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_Straight-6_engine
The 1987 RENIX 4.0 made 173 hp (129 kW) and 220 lb·ft (300 N·m) of torque. In 1988, the 4.0 received higher flowing fuel injectors, raising output to 177 hp (132 kW) and 224 lb·ft (304 N·m). In comparison, "this engine made more power than the Ford 302 V8, Chevy 305 V8, Chrysler 318 V8, as well as any of the 6 cylinder engines the Japanese were putting in their trucks... and it had comparable or better fuel economy."[5]
In 1991, Chrysler redesigned the RENIX engine control computer and raised the intake ports approximately .125 in (3.2 mm) for a better entry radius. Chrysler also enlarged the throttle body and redesigned the intake and exhaust manifolds for more efficiency, and the fuel injectors were once again replaced with higher flowing units. The camshaft profile was also changed. The net result was an engine that made 190 hp (140 kW) and 225 lb·ft (305 N·m) of torque. Badging on most Jeeps equipped with this engine read "4.0 Litre HIGH OUTPUT." The new cam profile combined with altered computer programming eliminated the need for an EGR valve and knock sensor, but made the engine more sensitive to alterations, especially where emissions are concerned.

power tech efi-177 hp, 220 ft lbs torque, used 87-90
power tech HO mpi-190 hp, 220 ft lbs torque, used 91-95, updated in 96-01 to 225 ft lbs.
And i believe the HO eblems were put on after 96

the cam, heads intake and exhaust are all differnt on the HO motor, but the 1996 version got an internal revision of pistons and rods.

yeah, I had a dumbass moment and for some reason forgot about everything else... oh well.
as stated, HO badges where 91-96. Some (or most?) 97+ just had a badge that says "4.0 Liter" on it. I also think but am not sure, they may have raised the compression a tiny bit on the HOs too. Intake and exhaust valves are also a little different, IIRC.
99 had a different intake, and I think they changed it again in 00.
some 97-01 models had "California Emissions" which included 3 or 4 cats.
87-89 had 1 cat with no oxygen sensor in it, and only had one oxygen sensor, located on the downtube from the header.
I wonder if you could put a HO cam in a renix...
