4.0 Oil Pump drive cracked
So this morning I let my jeep warm up like I normally do and when I pulled out of my driveway my oil pressure suddenly went to 0 and after a few seconds I had some nice lifter tick. Because of the additional noise over the normal jeep noises I suspected it was the oil pump but is it normal to break like this? Is there something else I should also be worried about or be on the lookout for?

Where's the gasket? That's not the factory pump, is it. When removing the factory pump, the gasket is usually stuck to the pump's sealing surface pretty good. That thing looks clean like it was just installed, and likely installed improperly.

put a new pump in, but inspect the engine end of the drive for damage, if damaged that too will need replacement. locate the broken bit, get it out of the engine. If you dont already have one, get a strong magnetic drain plug, they can be engine savers Some folks even put a huge magnet inside the pan, but watch for clearance issues!
I put a magnetic plug on the diffs too, if no drain on the diffs, then put a magnet on the fill plug, even on the fill plug they do pick up metal hairs, transfer case also.
good you shut her down before lack of oil did big destruction !

Awesome thank you for all the tips! I think I found the broken metal pieces in the pan and the engine side I believe looks good. Is there an easy way to prime this thing as the instructions did specify to do so, this is a 2000 with a coil pack.

That I definitely did not, grabbed what was in stock locally at a auto parts store as its my daily and I cant miss more work. Also didn't have a screwdriver long enough and was worried about having to resync everything to do the remove cam sensor and spin it with a drill but thankfully after trying to crank it without the cps about 10 times with no success read something about loosening the oil filter, cranking until oil comes out, tighten and start and it did the trick, thanks again!
