Could this be a case of detonation?? (Sounds like a knock but it isnt)
Can you determine which cylinder is having this problem??
If it didnt have one (knock sensor) then you dont need one..
and this only happens every so often, right?
I dont think its a knock sensor thats causing the knock, you might have to look in another direction?

This is correct. You do not need the knock sensor hooked up to the ecu. Leave it in the block just as a plug and cut the wires off.

actually, i think it's just a threaded closed hole used for vibration pickup. Leave that sucker off!

I would guess it may a fuel delivery problem.. timing of injector pulse, could be a sensor for timing as well.
Lean conditions can cause knocking.. Im not a pro at this but i just going by what ive read and own experience with detonation. I had to much air without enough fuel causing the knock and eventually threw a rod..
google detonation and it should give you a better understanding.. sorry im not a ..lol

the 95 4.0 has 220 hp from the factory the 96 has 225 this might have been accomplished by different internal timing ? the 95 ecm might mot be the same as the 96 ecm ?
