Default 4.0L - Running water sound when engine is turned off

My dad recently retired and had no use for his 95 Cherokee Sport 4x4 4.0L and signed the pink over to me.

I noticed after turning the motor off there is a running water sound coming from the lower end of the engine compartment. The sound is coming from the oil pan. Is it normal to hear the oil returning to the pan?

Yeah both of mine do it after I run them. I just looked under my 92 one day that I heard it, and noticed nothing was dripping so I figured it was normal.

Same thing on mine. Always hoped it was just oil draining.

Interesting, when I first got my Cherokee I noticed the same thing and was afraid it was ready to boil over.

As stated above, nothing more than all the oil in the various parts of the engine draining back down into the oil pan.

If you listen carefully enough, you can hear the oil drain into the pan when adding fresh oil after an oil change too.

Those that run Harley oil in their XJ probably can't.
