how many mpg you get with the 4.56 rear gears
how much bills for that
and is it real hard to do

 

depends on the size of tires you have, how you drive it, about $1,400 for everything, that includes labor and instilation, unless youhave the proper tools and know how you cant do it yourself or you will screw it up

 

i could prob do it myself and i wanna run 33's with a 3.5 RE lift can the 3.07 take that all im gonna be doing is a little offroading some small mudpits nothin major at all not even minor

 

First of all, you would only want to install 4.56 gears if you are planning to run 33 inch tires.

With a 4.0 HO motor, AW-4 Auto trans., 4.56 gears and 33 inch tires, I get about 18-19 MPG on the highway.

The best deal I've seen for gears front and rear are from 4wheel Parts. You can get ring and Genuine Gear ring and pinions and master install kits with Timkin bearings for most Jeeps for around $500. It'll be about another $500 if you pay somebody to install them for you.

so if i have 33's get the 4.56 dont keep the 3.07

 

the 3.07 could handle 33's, a fair amount of guys on here have that set up. It'll just be a little bit less peppy than it is now, but if you don't do anything crazy the 3.07 can hang. From what I have read on here and elsewhere, changing gears is something that should really only be done by an experienced professional with the right tools. And the guys on here that say that will do almost anything and everything themselves, so it must be easy to screw up bad. But if you have the skillz than more power to ya

so your 16 yrs old? no dont evern try the gears yourself, im not tryin to make fun of you or belittle you cause of your age cause im only 19 but i would never even consider trying to install gears unless i was trained had the tools and a shop

dont try it, trust me, and yes you will ruin it if you dont do it right, your rear end will burn up and break into pieces, ive seen this happen

 

mobilecherokee4 if he wants to try it let him try it... i dont see a problem with this... i personally am 19 years old too.. i have swapped in 3.... 4 liters, and 4 aw-4 transmissions now in cherokees and grand cherokees all by myself with no help what so ever... everything that you see on my jeep has been personally done by me.. i built my rear tire carrier when i turned 16... i can do gears.. i dont think it is that hard and to pay a "professional" 500 buck is outragious not going to lie... and i dont even trust others to work on my vehicle.. my brother once a while back had "professionals" that were supposed to be really good at installing gears do it for him and they did it wrong. now we just do everything ourselves. i am not afraid to try to do anything and i think that if he believes in himself that he should go ahead and do it.. more power to ya buddy.. dont worry what other people say if you can or cannot do it.. if you think you can then you will be able to.. its all about trial and error.. if the gears feel a little too loose than you are going to have to re shim them. thats all there is to it.. dont waste your money on a so called "professional" its all talked up and overpriced.. and that is my personal opinion

 

well im glad you can do it yourself, i do everything on mine myself as well, im just warning him that if he has never done this before and has no experience he should probly not try it, what if he messes up and burns up his rear end? what if he gets half way done and cant do it and has to get it towed towed shop and get it done "professionally" anyway.....just sayin

 

thanks but i really havent taken any classes or anythin......idk if im even gonna replace them ill prob drive it till they break (if they do) and see what happens an GMSWEEN you seem smart you know how to get my STOCK muffler off the cat converter its clamped or something, not welded but its like indented and ive tried to heat it up and smack it with the 10lb sledge but that didnt work

 

no the ones you have in there now they wont break, your jeep wil be just a little slugish with stock gears, if youinstall the new ones wrong they will mess up, im just givin you some advice from what ive seen, i know a guy that "knew what he was doin" and it messed his rig up
