Default 4-hole vs. 6-hole vs. 12-hole injectors - which is best??

I have a 2000 XJ Sport with 178k on the clock. I’m always looking to upgrade my Cherokee and the most common upgrade I’ve seen is the injector swap. I’m kind of confused on which injectors to get. I’ve heard there’s 4-hole, 6-hole, and 12-hole injectors.
What’s the difference? Could someone help me out?
Thanks!

The atomization difference between 1 hole and 4 hole injectors pretty big, but not that huge of a difference going from 4 to 12 hole injectors. Just buy whichever you can find for the best price (and make sure you avoid those junky Chinese injectors)

Actually the 12 hole injectors have even better atomization than the 4 hole.
We have had great luck with them. Easier starting, smoother idle, better mileage and better low and mid range power. No downside.

You can't believe the difference until you try them.
For even better power and performance, add the bored 62mm throttle body.
I have some here if interested=

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but the question intersted me, so I did a quick search on The Tube. Here's 1 vs. 4, and 4 vs. 12.

First, 1 vs. 4:

Next, 4 vs. 12:

Your mileage may vary, see dealer for details, void where prohibited.

Based on those two videos, it's clear the biggest difference is between 1 and 4. It's a BIG jump in performance. I have done that upgrade and the difference is very clear. But there is still a clear gain between 4 and 12.

The question is, will you see a huge difference in performance going from 4 to 12? I dunno one way or another.

So, if you have 4, maybe 12 would be worth the cost, maybe not. I'm not sure. But if you have 1, and assuming the costs are similar, I'd say the 12 is the way to go.

Placebo effect from 4-12 if you ask me. If you have singles still might as well go 12, no reason to go from 4-12 though

I'm going to agree here. I run two 90"s, which would use the Bosch 746 four hole or the crap stock one hole Simmons Deca or whatever they are called. (91 0n would use 4 hole 703's or something else).

Deal is, one of my 90's purrs like a kitten and runs very sweet with the 746's, but the other happens to have a SPANKING NEW SET of the "crap" one hole stock injectors a PO had bought (for a small fortune), and well...seems pretty sweet as well. I'm not disagreeing with Mark, when I changed my 23 year old stock to 4 hole I did notice a nice improvement.

Longer story shortened, for our 4.0's going beyond 4 holes would just be for fun, to experiment I'd think. I assume they are smaller holes the more you have, (not sure about that though). Smaller might clog more easily.

That's what I thought until we changed out the 4 hole (90 micron droplets) to the 12 hole (50 micron droplets) injectors.
Even the YouTube video is impressive for the 12 hole spray and atomization.

Interesting how the 4 hole injectors allow for LEV (Low Emission Vehicle) and the 12 hole injectors allowed for SLEV (Super Low Emission Vehicle).

I think everybody agrees that the 12 hole is better than the 4. It's a question of bang for the buck. 1 to 4, or 1 to 12, yeah, there's a clear bang for the buck.

4 to 12? I don't think we're convinced of the return on investment.

I have a new (to me) 98 with a blown engine, and a rebuild is planned. I'll go 12 hole, no question.

But my wrecked 97 had 4s, and I doubt I would be convinced to spend the money to convert that to 12.

Does any one have a part number for the 12 hole? And is it a bosch - direct fit? Thanks :-)

It's not a bad idea to replace that prehistoric fuel line when playing with the fuel system.

Great post/replies.

These are on my list, and was debating the 1 to 4 or 1 to 12. Seemed a clear choice to me, but that was without any factual knowledge on performance, just an assumption. Thanks for the input

I personally found the 12 hole injectors for a pair of 6 cheaper than I did the 4 hole but I know you can look up other models of Chevy or mustang and go pick up the 4 hole for practically. I thing at a local pick and pull

Don’t suppose you have any sets of these injectors for sale?

I got my 12 hole injectors from dimarmotorsportsllc on ebay. No issues so far and answered all my questions quickly that I had concerning installation.

I have 4 or 12 hole with flow charts. Each injector is individually labeled to show how it performed. 3 year warranty. Send me a PM.
