i have a 1991 Xj 4.0 with the AX15 and the NP 231. Recently my throwout bearing/slave cylinder went out, i had a local garage replace it since were friends with them and i dont have time to drop the tranny. When i got it back one of the first things i noticed was my shifter for the transfer case was back past the 4hi mark even though the transfer case is in 2hi. In order to engage 4hi i had to pull the lever all the way back to 4lo. I looked underneath and found nothing to be wrong or not hooked up so i tried to adjust the linkage, now its to the point where 4 hi now engages where it should but the rest of the way back acts like its in neutral, i tried adjusting it for a good hour but got nowhere. The garage will fix it for no cost to me because it was their mistake but they are busy and i love my jeep too much to let it go for another week. Its also my DD. Anybody have any sugestions or things i should try? thanks in advance

 

Did you adjust the linkage with the Case in 4LO?? You have to manually shift the case, from underneath by hand, then adjust the shifter and linkage. Me I'd take it back to the shop and have them fix what they messed up.

 

Thanks for the help, i just went outside and tried that and it now works, it is still a little difficult to get it into 4lo but it is working now. Thanks for the help and the fast reply
