4 Wheel Drive - Not Disengaging Properly?
I recently put my 99 xj in 4 wheel full time for a short period of time and then back in to 2 wheel drive. It took a little bit of time for 4 wheel to fully disengage which I understand can happen due to uneven tire wear. I may just be paranoid but is there a good way to confirm that 4 wheel has fully disengaged? Would I know immediately if it wasn't based on feel and performance? I recently bought this jeep from soccer mom so I doubt 4 wheel was ever used or the transfer case ever serviced. Thanks.

i have the 231 t case and my tires are worn extrimely different, i can shift into 4 high really easy but too disengage i have to stop. Put it in 2 wheel drive, then put in reverse, go back about 3 feet, put the clutch in, shift back into 1st and go i have to do that everytime to disengage i think it does have too do with my front tires being much more worn then my back
EDIT- i have no experience with the 242 t case but when my 231 dosent shift out of 4 wheel drive it is extrimly noticable that its still engaged but thats the part time i dont know anything about the full time since i dont have it

I had a '92 with the 242 and my current XJ is a '91 with a 231. On both (and all my other 4x4's in the past) I always shift back to 2wd and reverse a little bit. In the '92, I always HAD to reverse but not always in the '91. They're picky animals sometimes.
