i have a 98 cherk and when i first bought it and drove it on the highway there was a vibration that got worse over the course of a month or two. turns out it was the upper and lower ball joints. there's vids on youtube on how to change them. they're under $100 if you do it yourself. IF that's even the problem. if not, goodluck lol

You're going through all the fun parts of getting it back to normal operation, something everyone goes through when they first buy an xj. It's fun IMO and you get to learn a lot

Thanks again for all the responses. I picked up a gallon (and a couple quarts) of 75W-90 for the diffs and a gallon of Dexron III for the transfer case. I meant to say 6 quarts of engine oil, oops
Someone was kind enough (in my other thread) to link me to the torque specs for most every nut and bolt in the front end so I'll be spending some time under there with my torque wrench this afternoon.

I've put almost 90,000 miles on my Jeep since posting this. Thanks, in large part, to the patient folks on this forum who took the time to help. Thank you.

This made my chuckle, then scroll back up to realize it was the OP. Very awesome update. I'm dealing with a violent shake every time I hit something that resembles a bump on the road but I'm not overly terrified of it just yet. Replacing every bit of the underside currently as I don't have any major or even minor rust issues so its worth keeping it on the road for me.

LOL, I figured that would be your first though when you saw a seven-year-old thread brought back to life.
It has been such a pleasure to own a vehicle where the miles don't matter. I know that if it ever fails, I can fix it. In 90K it hasn't once not brought me home under its own power.
I'm really not, but thank you
