Park on level ground, and pull the TOP plug on the transfer case (there is a fill plug, top, and drain plug, bottom) The fluid should be level with hole for the top plug.

If you've never changed it, now's probably a good time to change the fluid in the TC.

Who knows when it was last changed the prior owner didnt take care of the jeep very well had to replace a lotta **** on it the most disturbing thing i replaced was the radiator and thermostat housing. Radiator was stopped up with sand and t-stat housing housing was pitted from where they ran salt water through it :/

You need to check/change every fluid in this Jeep aSAP. You know the PO was a flake. Don't invite disaster.

After about 3 months of owning mine. I went out and spent about 85 bucks on fluid and a gasket. I used Royal Purple In the front diff, T-case and rear diff. It gives you piece of mind.

Excellent plan.
Grease the front steering components and driveshaft u-joints whil you're at it.
