5 speed swap or gears?
i'm looking for some input.
i miss driving stick and a i have a auto xj with 33's and stock gears. gas mileage is in the ****ter and i have been thinking about doing gears. then a idea popped into my head, the stock gears in a stick box xj are 3.07 right? and a auto stock gear ratio is 3.93? will what if i just kill two birds with one stone?
the input i'm looking for here is: is this a good idea (pros and cons) and price comparison.
looking forward to seeing what you all think. thanks.

what year xj? what tcase?
and stock gears for an auto are 3.55
go to the JY and grab a manual tranny make sure the spline count is the same and it compatible for the year you have and the tcase. grab its cross member as well. as a just in caser. aslo need to grab the clutch pedal/master cylinder.
go thru clean it up, throw a new clutch on it. and bam!
id say for $500 or so compared to the $1500 rebuild its a good choice. and gotta love a 5 speed!

Not sure what you want to know. If you are looking for crawl ratio you usually want
lower gears with a stick because you don't have the torque converter to help multiply
low speed power. ( as in walking up a boulder )
