84-96 side mirror disassembly
Does anyone here know how, or if it's possible to disassemble the side view mirrors on my '92 Laredo? They're still in good shape, however they have hornet nests built up behind the glass and as a result, I can't fully adjust them. I'd like to pull them apart and clean / service everything before i stick them back on the vehicle.

The glass with plastic backing just pops off on my power ones. You can see the squarish backing here. (Don't laugh!! I did replace it.)
Tilt the mirror all the way to one side so you can get a pry tool behind it. It should pop off. It pivots on 2 axes so you may need to pry in both directions. Rockauto has replacement glass if you break it.

On my '92 with manual adjust mirrors to disassemble you first must heat the mirror with a heat gun to soften up the urethane mastic gluing the mirror to the pivot assembly, pry one corner up and slip some 20lbs fishing line under it. Pull the fishing line under the mirror to slice the mastic.
Once the mirror is free you can access the three mounting screws holding the assembly together. After that remove the screw holding the spring in place and the entire assembly will come apart.
Sadly I broke this mirror, but replacement glass is available on fleabay.
I'll order a new mirror and reassemble after its all cleaned out. Though honestly I'm considering just replacing both units with 97 mirrors as they're bigger and fold in.
Hope this helps anyone else trying to rebuilt the OEM manual adjustment mirror assemblies.
