Default 87 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Electrical Issue

Jeep starts, runs good. In idle while in gear, or park alternator charges. In gear and giving it gas, alternator seems not able to provide sufficient juice. Alternator good, battery good, cables from battery good. Ground wires checked, clean contact and good. Everything works good while in gear at a stop or idle in park. Once one gear and I'm giving gas, radio goes off, panel lights dim, headlight do fine. My winshield wiper only work in low setting. I have done some searching, and most of what I've found are issues that are the same. Except when in gear and driving they get juice, in idle they don't. Again, batter, alternator, cables to battery and ground contact's good, but in gear and driving certain components go haywire. Looking for help on my specific year, make and model. Would greatly appreciate any help👏

The older Cherokees can have multiple electrical issues but most are easily addressed. If the perceived charging problem is from looking at the voltmeter on the dash, don't trust it as the voltmeter is one of the items that suffers from poor wiring. One of the senior members here has a wealth of knowledge on the older XJ models (also referred to as RENIX models) and has a web site detailing many checks and fixes that can likely solve your problems.

Thank you Nick-B. That battery gauge is a waste of space. Drops for any little thing, but everything is working fine while in park or idle at a stop. I will take a look at the link. Hoping it has a wiring diagram. Thinking I'm missing a ground or I just can't find the bad wire. I'm good with cars, but this is my first jeep. Feel like I'm learning all over again.
