Default 87 renix 2.5l, runs rough, chugs and runs rich

my renix 2.5l runs rough. it chugs and sputters while driving and at idle. Just did a tune-up (plugs, wires, cap n rotor) also just changed thermostat and set up an aftermarket coolant temp gauge. runs between 145 and 160. while I was tinkering and we still had snow on the ground i noticed excess carbon and can smell some extra gas when i shut it down so i'm certain its running rough.

trying a coolant temp sensor tomorrow.

all the vaccuum lines are solid too btw... redid a few of them and looks good now.

Other than that anyone have any similar symptoms on theirs???

not looking for blind suggestions. I'm new to 4cyl systems so any experience is helpful.
