So I'm going to replace the heater control valve I just have one other questio how do you flush a closed radiator system?

What does the heater control valve have to do with overheating? Sorry just trying to figure this out so we can help with you problem. How much does that after market tank cost? I bet you could buy an open system tank for close to what a stainless steel tank would cost. There is also another way to make an open system but buying a T type fitting that goes in the upper hose and has an opening for a radiator cap. You still have to do the heater hose swaps but it should not be hard to do.
My sister had the closed system and spent 2 years replacing the plastic tanks and caps before I bought a junk yard open style radiator and putting it in. It has 277k miles on it and she still drive is on her paper route once in a while

I plan on doing the t insert into the radiator hose. Hopefully after I do all this it will fix the problem. If not I will transfer to an open system. What so you mean by the heater hose swap?


Also what size does the t fitting need to be 1"x1"x3/4" cap?

Read the second to last sentence in the post I left earlier that will tell you how to route your hoses. It is a much simpler system because you don't have to T off each heater line to the pressure bottle. I have done mine with ALL new Name brand components Rad, over flow bottle, T-stat, Water pump, fresh coolant,upper and lower hoses and heater hoses, I came in around 350.00. Also I said in my prior post you will need to modifi a bracket for the new style bottle, I didn't need to do this, after removing the base that the old bottle sits on the new bottle sits right down in there by the blower motor.

So basically all I have to buy is a radiator and heater hoses because i already replaced everything else. Couldn't I just use the pressurized bottle as an overflow or would that not work. The only reason I'm not wanting to change it to an open system just yet is I already have alot of money invested in the closed system only to find out I gotta throw that all out, I appreciate all the responses, I'm not ignoring your advice I just wanna get it fixed with the closed system since I already have the money into it.

When running my engine should I be able to feel if there's coolant in my upper radiator hose? Also both of my heater hoses are burning hot is that normal?

You said you just bought you current pressure bottle, I would return it. I returned mine Monday after having it three weeks because it held up for two then started to leak, I payed 45 for the pressure bottle and 30 for the over flow from Napa. The rad was 139 they will ask what thickness because there was two different ones available for a 93 have them check the thickness of the 88 because there was only one option. Also the new Napa rads are including the temp sensor switch port that was used on the 88s but not the 93s, so you wont have to modify your electric fan control.

you can also find a 2000 to a 2004 i think dodge dakota to change to an open system. the dakota has the radiator cap in the top hose. then change the pressure bottle for a overflow bottle.
