You could also check it with a meter, but you're probably just hunky-dorey. Google that!!!

well im sad to say that i cant check it because my jeep is on a lift at a transmission shop
all gears act like its in neutral with all sorts of grinding and popping,
i told the guy just rebuild the transmission if you have to and if you can salvage the transfer case to rebuild that too. heavy duty chain and Kevlar coated gears sounds great to me
its sad because this is the first time i have taken the jeep to a shop since i bought it 6 months ago i have gone through so many problems with the jeep have done 100% of the work from plugs to radiator, water pump, thermostat and front crank seal.

Man..so sorry. Spendy there. It seems trany shops can really get you. Sounds like the transfer case. I don't think the AW4 "grinds and pops". How's the trans fluid? Up, nice and pink, (ish?).

t case is going to be 1600$
and tranny will be 2300$
this seems way steep to me but the new case will be getting a HD chain, and completely rebuilt
the tranny will be getting Kevlar coated gears and clutches and completely rebuilt. hopefully billet input/output shafts. also a HD torque converter
ohh and they both have warranty's
this sound okay or ridiculously high to you guys?
considering I could get a new aw4 and np242 for about 2k

Way to rich for me. I'd get a second opinion. Almost $4,000 actually sounds nuts to me, unless you are building some show rig..even then.
Idk your situation, or how much you want to "wrench". You might find a small independent shop, maybe in the "low rent" side of town. (I don't know Fort Worth). I'd bet you could find an aw4 at a wrecker and get it bolted up for well under $1,000. If you could "lay hands" on another transfer case for $200 (plus or minus), installing that one instead of yours is very little, or no extra work.
It sounds wrong that they both went at the same time. At the very least I'd get a second opinion before spending $3,900. You might just need a transfer case and a solonoid in your tranny, is my .02.

I thought it sounded ridiculous. However, it was torn apart then sent to Arlington to get looked at/rebuilt. Then the shop gets the $. I was expecting about 1k each for a rebuild. But the case was gone way back. It's never worked right, then the tranny went. He said the oil slinger wasn't even slinging oil and the clutches where basically gone

And I want to do the work myself but at that time he already pulled them and sent them off. I found a new aw4 and rebuilt np242 for 1700$... I wish I would have done that but the case and tranny are already done and in the jeep

They might have put your tranny in the (rig in the ) bay next to you, and charged them the same as yours.
Granted, "that ship has sailed", but here at lest , Have the bad part's in hand before writing the check.
If they can't do that......why?

That's a good idea, I may just get the case back, I have to ask if he used the original tranny or not. I would love to get these back and tear into them just to learn about it. It killed me to hear about the things that were broke and what needed fixin without me looking at it and getting greasy. That way I can learn. Hopefully I can get them back, unfortunately, I like this guy and hate confrontation, I'm 18 as you know and my dad works over seas. I may have to look up the "returning broken parts thing" for texas

Well, on the case, It had very distinct damage on the tail cone housing from coming down on a rock, if I get it back and it's not there then I know I got the wrong case. Or if its still that way on the "new(used/rebuilt) case" then I know I got screwed. Your right about the tranny though.. Idk how ill be able to now if it was mine or not. (That's assuming he couldn't use the original when he rebuilt it)
I looked it up and it looks like they are required to give me the faulty broken parts back

alright guys, the jeeps back and tranny is shifting very smooth and the case goes in and out awesome. the only thing is, it still shifts into 4th late and runs a high rpm at highway speeds, ill check out that little thing under the drivers side dash and get back to yall
