88 transmission wiring help??? !!
Ok so I have my aw4 bolted in from my 5 speed swap. I bought the baja shifter from rory at RaDesigns and it looks like it will work great. I am not sure though what exactly I have to do to hook it up. I know which wires I need to splice into it but there are a lot of connections that I am not sure what to do with. I was told that installing this shifter would eliminate the need for the tcu- but what about the wiring harness on the upper right side of the tranny? What do I do with that? I will post pics of which one I mean..

I am running a seperate cooler rather then run it through the radiator. But what does this black harness control? I was told I wouldn't need a tcu at all to do this swap with this shifter... ???

You can not shift mechanically through the gears with an AW4. The mechanical operation is only for forward/neutral/reverse shifts. The shifting between forward gears (1-2-3-OD) is elecrically operated by the solenoids. This shifter you have must have a sort of wire harness with switches on the lever in order to operate the solenoids. In this case the only harness you need from the tranny is the one that gives power to the solenoids, together with a power supply. All other connectors are unnecessary.

Ok so I have another question now. I did not purchase another switch tol control the torque converter. So if the only wires I have run are to the shift solenoids what is controlling the torque converter?
