'89 AW4 Aisin (Warner?) issue
Apologies in advance if this is in here somewhere and I couldn't find it....
So I have had a 1989 Jeep Cherokee now for about 3 years on my ranch and it has rarely been on the highway or for that matter driven over 30 more than a handful of times since I have had it. It has always shifted good and firm and no issues. This morning we took it out to put a new stand up and had a real short descend to the spot and then ascended on the way back up. When we got to the top of the hill, put it in park to check a feeder and then got back in and no gears. Turned it off let it sit for a bit and got rolling again. Backing out to the main road and shift into drive - nothing again. No leaks, no smell. Check the fluid and seems correct and nice and red. Turn it off and let it set again. Fired it back up and get it rolling again. Make it to the shop and now it is consistently doing this. It's like its low on fluid and when you let it sit long enough to drain back into the pan, it will work for a bit then stop. Like I said, it shows full and is cherry red. I added a quart thinking with the goofy design of the dipstick (thinking maybe got some air in it during the descend/ascend), but now looks slightly overfilled...
Pulled the TCM fuse to try manually shifting, but same issues.
Surely something didn't burn up in the very light driving in the time I have had it??
Everything else I drive has a bowtie on it, so not entirely familiar with the AW4. Any other ideas?
TIA for any help.
