If you find and fix the wire or clip... unplug the battery...
Not only WHILE you fix it, but immediately after. To reset the computer.

I took it to a shop in our neighborhood. They had it for four days, and couldn't find anything. They drove it around, let it sit out in front of the shop idling for three days. Hoping it would die. They said the full pressure was good every time they checked. I gave them a list of every thing I've done to the Jeep. Other than making fun of me for all the grounds I put on (I put a could extra on above what was included in Cruiser's tips just for good measure), they thought it might be the distributor. As far as they could tell, it was probably the original distributor. 178,XXX miles. Seems plausible, but without it dying on them, or me since, hard to check. Any ideas? Thanks!

I just read your post about the train tracks, oddly enough every single time my Cherokee died, it was over the train tracks then taking an immediate right. Everyday, after work. Tracks, turn ,stall. Which then progressed to every decent sized bump. I think maybe the everyday driver has to start paying attention to when it stalls and what was happening when it did. It was the only way we figured out my issue. Which again, was a clump of wires on the drivers side, swinging while I drove, so a bump and a turn was just enough. Wiggling didn't work, My dad gave those wires a straight up shove, and it shut right off.

BOTH OF MY 90 "Renix" JEEPS RARELY DO A HOT NO START. Just unplugging, then putting back the CPS plug makes it start!!!!!!!!!!
Long before I even knew what it was I spray-painted the connector on my Mom's Jeep, and left instructions in the glove-box, "Tell them to unplug, then replug this". (painted white connector)
Yes, my handle is FLINTSTONE Sometimes that tech is what it takes. Bone head somehow figured it out.
They both test good per Cruisers info. Some secret of the Hall effect transducer? Some glitch in the nearly bulletproof Renix ECU?
TAKE THIS ONE TO THE BANK. NO WAY I'M WRONG HERE WITH 15 YEARS ON ONE, AND JUST ONE ON THE OTHER. (DONE ONE ONCE, AND THE OTHER A FEW) .........

Welcome to the forum Tenth. Without knowing what you have it's pretty hard to offer much. My 84 has four cylinders and a carburetor. Five gears. Just putting it in a post doesn't help all that much, but in you're info, then anyone can find it easy!

Thanks for the response. I will try to state what I know.
The Cherokee in question is '88 Pioneer 4.0 AOD - stock. I've gone through Cruiser's steps 1-8 (thanks!), adding straps and cleaning contacts & grounds. I have installed a new knock sensor and CPS (tested OK) and am looking at other options. I installed 4 port injectors (made a world of difference in power band and idle), have recently done water pump, PS pump, full tune-up (plugs, cap, wires, etc). Fuel pump tests OK at idle and under load, never below 25 PSI. Seafoam through the fuel system every 6 months.
Most days she starts fine, idles smooth. In last year she has developed a stumble or 'miss' under part throttle - feels like a plug is misfiring. It is affecting drivability as it has no guts. Yet if I floor it, she responds (especially with the new injectors).
Occasionally she will refuse to start. Sometimes when hot, yesterday after sitting for a week in the cool of the morning. Strong cranking, fuel in fuel rail, pressure ok. Let is sit a few hours and try again - lo and behold, she starts! My daughter is supposed to use this as her daily driver, but now takes my '98 and leaves me with this headache. I want my Jeep back, so I need to fix hers.
I've NOT looked into the C101 connector again - probably this afternoon I'll pull it apart and clean it. It's been a year or two, so it's a logical step to re-visit. Any other suggestions, guidance or advice?
I also run a '98 and a '00 XJ both 4.0 AT
