Default '89 cruise doesnt work

Hi all, new to the forum and was looknig for some guidance. Picked up a 1 owner '89 Wagoneer Limited from a friend. The cruise doesnt work and upon 1st look the black wire that comes out of the cruise/signal stalk and snakes down the steering colum was obviously broken up by the stalk. I figured easy fix just replace the stalk which I did with an aftermarket one. However after replacing it still doesnt work. I checked under the hood, all vacuum lines are attached to the cruise unit and after removing one I could hear a suction sound so Im assuming all is good on that end. I dont see any fuse reference in the manual related to cruise control. Is there one? or a relay of some sort? Also I dont seem to be getting any juice at any of the cruise connections such as the spade connection at the base of the steering column or under the hood. Obvioulsy this is not a major issue but since its their Id like to get it operational. Should there be any dash light that comes on when the cruise is switched on? Obviously I dont see any. Any thoughts appreciated, thx, Cory

Check the vacuum lines to it.

I checked what I could see and when I disconnect the lines to the servo I do hear a suction sound so I would assume the lines are good?

The servo itself is the most common component to fail.. After a tedious session of testing switches, vacuum lines, brake switch and all possible fuses that (might) affect it, I took the servo apart (as much as possible) and found corrosion inside it. I rolled the dice.. picked up a used one at the JY for $29. Success! Cruise control works like a charm now.

Glad you got yours working, I'll take a look at the servo.

My problem not solved, yet. This is an 89 XJ wagoneer limited with factory cruise, maybe some of the other models didnt come with it?

I've got an '89 base with factory cruise and it's listed on my build sheet. Up until a couple months ago, it actually worked. But not now, so I'll be watching this thread for a possible solution and if I find one on my own, I'll let ya know.

I have checked all fuses and they are good.
when I pull a vac line from the servo I get a suction sound so I assume vac is good.
a/c blows out dash just like its supposed to.
checked connections by the brake switch and they are connected.

Im thinking electrical rather than vacuum, reason is I get no voltage reading anywhere in the system, not the spade connector at bottom of steering colum not the connector by the servo.

Also I was told to check for cel codes by turning the key on and off either 6 times or 3 times however I dont seem to have a cel. when I leave the key in the ON position the only light that comes on is the seatbelt light and the e-brake light if the e-brake is engaged.
