I hope so because all the videos I watch the 99 XJs have the a/c and alternator in the same location as all the other XJs which makes me think maybe it’s a clean sheet design motor with an aw4 bolted to it. But I don’t know I’m no mechanic like you guys and nor would I claim to be. Thanks agian

Unfortunately, it's going to be quite a bit of work to adapt that block to an XJ. First off, the motor mounting bolts are in a different location. Brown Dog can put together a set of mounts that will work, I presume other MFGs could as well. You'll also need to adapt the Knock Sensor (stacking nut welded to bolt). Secondly, the TJ Cooling Fan is mounted to the Water Pump, placing it in the center of the radiator, preventing usage of the Aux Fan and even then, I'm not sure that the Fan Clutch will space it correctly. You'll need to make a custom shroud or convert to electric fans, which is marginal on a XJ due to the small radiator. Lastly, you'll need to use the TJ/WJ alternator and A/C compressor and adapt to them as required; the XJ brackets won't bolt to the TJ/WJ block, the holes are in different locations. Custom A/C lines aren't the end of the world, but certainly not the easiest depending on where you live. You'll also need to adapt the Temp Gauge Sensor to either the thermostat housing or drain plug in the side of the block, but that's the least of your worries compared to everything else. For not much more than the cost of the aftermarket engine mounts, you could get a XJ/ZJ engine from the JY/FB/CL/etc...

The LHD XJs had the alternator on the top of the passenger's side and I'm guessing the A/C is on the bottom of the driver's side based on the hose routing. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/rig...cement-221081/

There's a few good pictures on here that show the differences between the XJ/ZJ and TJ/WJ blocks. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/06...-00-xj-229544/

That might be out of a RHD 4.0. Google shows belt routing for a RHD 4.0 to have AC on bottom drivers side.

If that's the case, I believe you can just use your LHD brackets.

X2 on using your current 1989 transmission. The 1999 trans won't work with your transmission computer regardless of whether is the AW4 from the Cherokee or the Chrysler trans from a Grand (at least not without a lot of work - see https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970).

Ok it sounds like I have to use my old trans which is fine it’s still in my 89 Cherokee. As far as trying to figure out if my motor is a RHD or a WJ this is what I’ve found with the research I’ve done and correct me if I’m wrong. The RHD and 99 WJ both have the alternator up top on passenger side and the a/c under the power steering pump driver side the only difference is with the RHD XJ had a mechanical fan pulley between the power steering pump and a/c. The 99WJs got rid of the mechanical fan all together and went with one large elect fan in the center so there for there is no mechanical fan pulley and please correct me if that’s incorrect. My 99 motor does not a mechanical fan pulley so I’m thinking it’s a WJ with a AW4 bolted to it or I think it is my trans model number is 30-43LE when I google that it comes up AW4. If I’m wrong on any of this let me know I’m just trying to figure out what’s sitting on my shop floor thanks.

SInce your Renix engine is out, you could try fitting the motor mounts to see if the holes line up.
