Default 89 XJ Overheating

Hey y’all. I have 89 XJ and I’m having trouble keeping it cool. I’ve replaced everything (water pump, fans, radiator even switched to an open system, and t-sat) nothing seems to work, it’ll stay cool for a while but then heat up. I’ve check and no signs of cracked head or bad head gasket. I was hoping y’all can help me figure out what’s wrong.

WELCOME to CF.
Was it heating up before you converted to an open system? Losing coolant?

Yes it was. The bottle had creaked and replaced it but still overheated. It heated up less with the new open system.

How hot is it getting? Could be air trapped in the system. Have you ever done a good engine flush?

What I’ve been noticing recently it’s been around 240. I’ve flushed them system before and after putting in the new radiator.

Get an IR gun and point it at the thermostat housing or wherever your temp sensor is to see if it really is that hot. It could be, but it never hurts to check.
