Default 90 check engine light

On my 90. My engine emission light isn't lighting up. I need it to light up to pass smog. I checked for the maintenance box under the dash. It seems to be gone already. Does anybody know the color of the wire or wires that plugged into the box? So I can at least locate them. As far as the light lighting up should I jump it from my seat belt light? Has anybody else solved this problem? California smog is the worst. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

HuH? I think that might be a scam. I've had my 90 12 years and worked on it for the PO before that, and that is the first I've seen about any light. Passed CA smog in 02.

See what Crusier has to say, but the light mess started in 91 with the HO engine I believe. 87-90 Renix Jeeps, (pre-Chrysler) Have no light.

But! Once I saw a 90 at the JY that had a different TPS than mine......

I had the same problem a couple months ago but luckily a mechanic I know had a computer that he hooked up and turned it right off. xj's have this stupid maintenance light that turns on every so often to remind you that its time to do maintenance except you need the computer to turn it off even if you change the oil and everything, its very annoying.

Well maybe he just didn't get the memo! Could well be an honest mistake. Again, check out 5-90's info in post #2 here, maybe print it and show it to your guy. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/emi...fornia-175356/ Check that tag.

I started following that post. Turns out the dude lives right up the road from me. He hasn't took his back in for smog yet. I'm planning on taking mine tomorrow for the 10 dollar retest. I need some documents to show him though. No where on the vehicle does it state that it is pre obd or anything like that. There is an actual emission light. It is supposed to turn on when you turn the key on. I replaced the bulb before I found about the maintenance box. Does anybody know the color of the wire or wires that plugged into the box? So I can at least locate them? Also does anybody have printable evidence that it is pre obd so I can educate the smog tech? I'm going for the 10 dollar retest. I don't want to pay the 50 dollars to go to another tech.

Oh, hey. I Just put it together SR, Windsor. I have a place in Rio Nido. Anyway you did see this?

The VECI is the "Vehicle Emissions Control Information" label. It will be on the firewall, on the underside of the hood panel, or on the front crossmember underhood. It will have a vacuum diagram and basic tune-up settings on it, and the bottom of the label will have 2-3 lines of text that say what standards apply to the vehicle as manufactured (CA/Federal emissions, OBD-I/OBD-II/pre-OBD, &c.)

Btw it was a shop at Fulton that smogged mine in 02.

No where on the vehicle does it state that it is pre obd or anything like that. On the veci label It doesn't say anything about obd. What shop in Fulton was it?

Was on the south-east corner at "the" intersection, East of the market. I only get down there a couple times a year....not sure if he is still there or not.
