The renix ecu has eight modes (open or closed loops) of operation.

The 02 sensor is resistance based, so if it was giving bad voltage, then ya things could be rich or lean, but only in warmed idle (closed), and warmed cruising (closed).
Key on mode = open
Crank mode = open
Warm up mode = open
Idle mode warm = closed
Cruise mode warm = closed
Deceleration mode = closed
Wot mode = open
Key off = not really a mode could call it closed.

I was just rereading some of the posts ,have you checked the voltage going to the fuel pump while you are cranking it over if your not getting enough voltage it would be hard to start

Good idea. And while you're back there, check the resistance in the fuel pump ground circuit.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I pulled the fuel tank this weekend what a mess, and sure enough what i anticipated had happened. The sock came off the fuel pump and also the bumper was not in place. Really glad i decided to pull the tank. I had run the tank pretty dry so i could pull it. What i saw in the tank was not a pretty sight it looked like muddy pond water after a hard rain. and it didnt have a strong gassy smell the gas was completely contaminated i pored what was left in the tank into an open container and never saw any fumes rising from the gas i dont even know how it was running at all on that gas and i just put in fresh gas last year, ethanol gas is not something that can hang around in your gas tank for very long without contaminating the system, i ran into this last year and had to go through all my lawn equipment and found for the first time ever rust in the carbs and i keep them all undercover so there is no way water got in from the outside. I thought about cleaning the tank and tried a little bit and it is a lot of rust in there so i ordered a new tank new fuel pump(i have a lifetime autozone pump) and i noticed they dont offer that warranty anymore, this is the 3rd time i have collected on the warranty. I actually ordered the whole assembly this time, new fuel filter, and im going to flush out the fuel lines,. When i get all of this installed i am going to put in ethanol free gas, because i dont use the jeep a whole lot but when i need it i need it to work. So i will have new injectors, new gas tank new fuel filter, new fuel pump clean lines any one think of anything i forgot. When i get all of this installed i wil know my fuel system is clean, then i can evaluate the engine better. I wont be able to work on it this weekend im going to see Alice Cooper my first concert since the 70s. Thanks guys for hanging with me through all this hopefully the end is near.

There are websites and smart-phone apps that you can use to locate ethanol free gas in your area. I just researched this out and will no longer be putting e10 in my 1990 XJ.

The interesting thing is i always used what i called good gas Exxon, Shell, Etc no independents. The only stations in my area that sell ethanol free gas are independent stations. Ratty little stations that i would never get gas from, but i will now.

According to the link below, Canadian Tire does not have e-free in Alberta;

X2^ Best way to avoid a car-b-q: Learn the smell of a fuel leak, keep a fully charged fire extinquisher where you can get at it in 5 seconds, and replace the stock injectors on your renix.

Hmm only one listed for Ontario. I'll have to ask where my coworker got that tidbit... though this being all user-submitted I wouldn't think too much of the lack of something. According to that site, my city doesn't even exist, where there are several places you can fill up with ethanol-free 91 from Shell
