Default 91 Jeep Cherokee Limited Dash Speakers

Hi all,

I have a 91 Jeep Cherokee limited, it has the Accusound system so it has the tweeter speakers in the bottom corners of the dash. I've installed these cool speakers from Amazon in the door and rear hatch that were nice because they came with a wire harness adapter to fit to the new speakers, no splicing or anything really easy install. I was hoping to find something similar for these tweeters in the dash. I called Crutchfield and found the speaker size to be 3.5" for those dash speakers but they told me that all the after market speakers for the dash speakers are deeper and you might have to do some modification to make them fit. I was hoping to find something that matched the stock speakers so I wouldn't have to do that but the guy at Crutchfield said there probably is nothing out there.

Does anybody have any good recommendations for a brand for replacement for these two speakers and if you replaced yours what did the modification look like? Did you have to cut something?

Thanks!

I happened to find 2 of the 3.5" speakers at the junkyard. I wasn't even there looking for them, but I saw them dangling in the XJ next to the one I was getting parts off of and new I could use them!!! And they work!! They don't make a huge difference and I'm sure I will get used to it really soon and wont notice it anymore, but it did at some extra sound in there.

BTW I got them at Littleton U-pull down off Santa Fe, south of 470. Their inventory list says they only have 4 XJs there, But I'm sure any 3.5" speaker for a chrysler from those years would more than likely fit.

Thanks for the response! Yes I have been down to that yard many of times! I like that one a lot because it is paved the whole way through. I think they might be closed due to the Co-Vid stuff right now, or they were when I looked at their website a week or so ago. If I can find a good set at the yard that is definitely a good idea, I will say every time I've looked at speakers in the cars there, they are usually in worse shape than what I have. I think they only had these knee dash speakers through 96, I think when they did the body change in 97 they either got rid of them or moved them to a different area. And you have to find a Limited (they were standard) and some Laredos have them.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeap my sport has the grills and plugs, just no speaker. And I had to modify the driver side a little by using JB Weld. The screw holes in the knee didnt line up perfect with the mounting holes on the speaker.
I plan on being out there when they open getting parts for a Frankenstein lift with the bastard pack....
