91 XJ 5 SPEED MANUAL 4.0l
i have seen a few posts on automatics that have issues with not making it up hills. mine seems to never need to go into 5th gear, and if i dont anticipate a hill on the highway i will be in 3rd gear trying to get up it. i took it out for a shake down drive on an easy trail and i found that i never could get out of first gear going up the trail. RPM's no higher then 2500...if i tried to go into 2nd a felt like i was close to stalling.
1st gear 0-20
2nd 10-30 2500 rpm
3rd 35mph to 55mph 2500 rpm
4th gear 55 to 70 max 2500RPM
5th down hill or flat only 65mph 2000 rpm
some back story:
the xj is a complete rebuild...engine fully rebuilt (not stroker) 5speed tranny and transfere case all rebuilt with new clutch and flywheel... everything seems to work great on flat easy roads. i just feel like i dont have enough power going into a hill or once going slow on a trail i just have 1st gear.
changed: 02 sensor and MAP-No change
changed throttle control sensor-No change
plugs are new as are all electrical components
fuel pressure sits at 31 and jumps when i remove vacuum to regulator as it should ...all new injectors etc etc..
i am running 31inch by 10.5 with 3 inch lift...this is an overlander not a rock crawler...gear ratio in the back has not been changed its currently factory...
when i purchased the XJ last year i never got it over 60mph so dont now if i always had the issue...the suspension was so bad that it was not stable over 55mph...
exhaust is new but i went cheap on catalytic converter but i am gonna pressure test it shortly...
if the cat checks out i think i am back at gear ratio...it just feels like the engine isnt giving me everything it has...foot to the floor ....i know it has more ...at least i hope it does
anybody?
thoughts?
