92 Cherokee transmission help

92 Cherokee transmission help
I had to pull someone up my hill today so i used 4low when i shifted back into full time also part time and 2wd my transmission would start out in 2nd gear. I drove around messing with it to try to get 1st to work thought i burned it up then i pulled over shut jeep down and started it again and 1st started working again like nothing ever happend i have aw4 with np 241. Just wondering what happend if anybody has had this happen to them.

You might maybe check the "TV", (kickdown cable) at the throttle linkage. There is a process, but I just adjust mine with about no play. (there is a button right on top that frees the housing to adjust) Don't know if that could to that, but it's something to check/adjust anyway.
The TPS sends info to the TCU for shifting. If it acts up more maybe consider a new TPS.
If your mounts are shot you might have moved the whole engine/trans towing in low. On mine that affects my Transfer case linkage....I think the trans has a cable though. (Not sure there).

what D was referring to, you can find by doing a search on here for a thread called "free quick fix", has the pictures to go with it.
To differentiate between mechanical and electrical issue with transmission problems (for future reference) , you can try and shift manually through the gears. If this works fine, your problem is likely in the electrical section of things (not the mechanical)...
