'92 Cherokee Valve Job
I have a '92 Cherokee with 223,00 miles. Its a six cylinder, 4 wheel drive.
I noticed the other day that my oil pressure was low, i opened the hood and checked my oil levels, it was bone dry. I immediately ran to the gas station and got 2 qts to get me home, once home i let it sit for a day or two until i could get more oil, (this was Christmas day, not much open.) I did an oil change about 2,000 miles ago, then too, the oil was almost gone. I put in new spark plugs 3,000 miles ago, and about a week later they had already built up more ash. A quick Google search came up with bad valve guide seals. The only thing was she wasn't smoking, white smoke is indicative of bad seals. Today, after adding more oil, i started the Jeep up, and white smoke poured from the exhaust. I'm now confidant its time for a valve job. I'm a 17 year old kid (as of today, my birthday) and do all of the maintenance myself. (i have no money, see the previous sentence: 17 years old). Does bad seals fit? anyone know of any good online tutorials? Should i just cough up the dough to have a pro do it for me? How much should i pay? Any and all help and advice is appreciated.
