92 XJ Still getting hot after extensive work.
Okay, so my 92 is getting up in the red when I'm wheeling or idling on hot days (88F or so). Here is a list of what has been replaced/fixed in the last six months:
Radiator
Thermostat
Hoses
Water Pump
Fan clutch
Thermo housing temp sensor
Temp sending unit
Wired electric fan to switch (been leaving it on)
I can't think of anything else it could be, I basically have a brand new cooling system. Any ideas are appreciated.

And the waterpump, is it the correct type (reverse) and fan clutch (reverse cycle)?
(also, heater getting warm?).
You pretty much have all components addressed, so might be something with the work done?

Heater works great. Thermo is from local advance auto parts, don't remember the brand. Water pump matches the original exactly, as far as I know.
The work was done mostly by me, except the radiator and the coolant flush. The mechanic I use I trust completely.
I will check the cap, but as far as I remember its fairly new.

Upgrade on the fan clutch could possibly influence the overheating positively when idling, but you also state its overheating when driving. Did you check flow in the radiator? I trying to think where this all comes down to, since you replaced almost everything by now...

If you have an AC condensor you may want to make sure the fins aren't restricted(bent or clogged) blocking air flow through the radiator. Got a shroud on your mech fan?

My '92 Laredo essentially had the same problem. Original head was cracked. Replacement used head with 145K miles also ran hot no matter what I did, both before and after total rebuild of engine.
Pulled that head off after rebuild. Put another different rebuilt head on it.
After 1000's of hours and 1000's of $$$$, it doesn't run hot any more.
So, it was in the head(s).

I know this thread is old, but I hate when I stumble on an old thread that got resolved but there is no answer posted.
I ended up needing a new water pump again. Not sure why, but once I did that, everything started cooling again. Never even approaches the red.
Thanks everyone for your help.
