I just told you. what you're suggesting, in this thread, SHOULDN'T be done.
the engine itself (longblock only) will work with any H.O. xj, mj, zj, yj, and early tj's.. just because this is true does not mean that things like the transmission or sensors will work inversely. some things like intake, exhaust, bracketry, etc. could be made to work with little to no real modification.

Sure. I can, too. but I'd never do that. not because the time involved or the work is daunting...i've done jeep projects you'd cringe at, but always for sound reason.
there is absolutely zero reason to ever convert a 97+ down to a 96- system. ZERO. fenders, front clip, sure...understandable if those are the parts you have or can get to replace wrecked ones. otherwise, it is easily one of the worst ideas ever.
if you like the older styling, good on you. buy an older xj. nothing like owners depreciating the value of something by chopping and modifying the hell out of even the most basic systems on it.

I diddnt think I was that off topic, the title was, 93 4x4 drivetrain into a 98 2x4. But I guess the real question is, are you going to look for the trans and t case from a 98, or try and use what you have. Im not sure how it works with junk yards around you, but here it seems like if they know you are using it to do offroading and such they charge more for the parts. For example I just bught a hp Dana 30 just for the gears. One place I called and asked for a hp Dana 30 with 4.10 gears and they wanted like 350 bucks. Next place i called, I just asked for an axle out of a 4x4 cherokee with a 4 banger, he said sure, 80 bucks. The places were like 2 miles from each other. So if you get a jy trans, shop around for a good deal.

Ok guys, shut up and tell me exactly what makes a 93 the ultimate drivetrain compared to a 98. I have a 97 that DOES NOT have the front tranny sensor but other than that I have the 29 spline 8.25, the 5 extra ft./lb of torque engine, the computer and wiring harness are all in one spot (like the oh so successful GM set up), and there aren't nearly as many MAP sensor problems or other stuff affiliated with broken vaccum lines so what exactly makes it lesser than a 93? I've had 2 94s and they didn't seem all that better than my 97
