Yesterday I decided to take the day off to go to the beach. It was about a two hour drive, and we got stuck in traffic for a while. This lead to constant moving and stopping. I started to realize that if I braked, it would pull left, and if I let go of the wheel with no brake...it pulled right. Now I know I need swaybar links cause there noticably shot. After I noticed it, I got off the exit and my right front over-heated and smoke was POURING out of the brakes. I let it cool off, and it was fine? I just did a full blown brake job before this all happened, and after yesterday...it stops rough.

it sounds like you have glazed them,or a pad may be sitting wrong on the caliper,I have also seen where they have been put in backwards,and they will actually work for a short time until they hit metal.

sounds like your caliper is sticking causing the pads not to release fully and then they rub all the time causing them to heat up and eventually smoke as you described

well i did the brake job about a month and a half ago. i havent had any problems until yesterday when i was in traffic for evidently "too long". thing is its been fine ever since it got hot. ive been driving it for a day, and no problems.

check your calipers...im betting one is ceased, not releasing the pressure like stated before. I just went thru this and many other problems on a 200k mile XJ
