Hello, just got this xj a few days ago and am slowly finding out her little quirks. I have had 4 of these things now but this is my 1st manual, and the 1st time i have encountered this, during a torrential downpour no less. When disengaging the clutch and off of the throttle the wipers stop. When you get back on it they work. I have also had to either turn my blinker on for them to kick in too. The throttle thing has me thinking it is a power issue. Also probably relevant, there is a wire running from under the dash into the turn signal indicator stock. I have read something about people hard wiring 2 components together when 1 fails. Me thinks that is probably part of the problem. Every time I think I know all of these things unique issues there is another it seems lol.

 

Not sure if it’s related to the wipers but there is a wire harness that runs behind the clutch pedal in my 2000. I noticed that my clutch pedal was rubbing on something recently and looked down there to see what it was. There are 2 wires that have been scuffed open on mine and my driver side speaker has stopped working at about the same time I noticed the problem. I haven’t gotten around to inspecting any further. Maybe check that wire harness for damage
