94 XJ Sport non start and misfire issues
Hi folks, not new to the forum as I have a 97 XJ. However my parents just bought my daughter a sweet little 94 XJ Sport, 6 Cyl, Auto trans, in terrific condition. I am not sure what's going on with it as this year model is a lil different than mine. Here's the run down:
1st issue: Upon turning the key on you have to wait until the CEL goes off to roll over to "start". I can here the newly installed (due to this issue ) fuel pump prime, I am pretty sure I hear the injectors spray and yet it will not crank. Sometimes you have to repeat this step up to 20x to get it to start then BAM.....varoooommm, it cranks and idles great.
2nd issue: Once you start driving it has a miss to it, almost like it's dying and starting back, but more subtle than that. Feels like the tranny is trying to find OD although it's already in OD.
I am sure the two are related but not sure how. I also hear a slight hiss (vacuum leak) from a little box on the driver's side firewall. I am unfamiliar with this as it's not like this on my XJ. ANY input would be appreciated as she lives about an hour and a half away, has owned this Jeep a month already and has yet to drive it. She's chomping at the bit to get in it and go but my dad and I do not want her to take off permanently in it until I sort out this issue. Thanks for reading and any input.
