'95 and '98 tranny same?
Quick question...
Would a '98 aw4 be of use as far as part swapping for a '95 aw4? (valve body, torque conv, etc.)
Local junkyard has a '98. I have '95.
Thanks

Actually I just spoke with a lady at the yard, and she says '95 aw4 tranny is only interchangeable with '94.
So what would the differences be between aw4's '95 and '98? Whole transmission would run about $150.

A few things changed in 98, so it would not be a direct swap. A front input speed sensor was added, and the rear speed sensor changed type and pulses per rev. Read here: https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970
Save your money. The AW4 is pretty robust, and usually any problems are electrical and not internal mechanical. Either a bad throttle position sensor, a bad solenoid, or poorly adjusted throttle-trans cable. A brand new set of solenoids cost $65 and can be swapped by dropping the pan. I wouldn't swap in a used t/c either.

The shifting problem i am having is primarily trans not shifting out of first. This occurs with the tv cable adjusted per spec or unhooked from throttle linkage and all the way in. It will upshift during hard acceleration and downshift when letting off, even at higher speeds. Seems almost backwards.
Shifts somewhat "normal" with the cable unhooked and blocked all the way OUT. Otherwise maybe the pressure is low.
This is my previous post...
'95 RHDrive-Trans ONVEHICLE ValveBody Removal
This issue is same with manual shifting and TCU unhooked which I think eliminates the electronics, right?
