Default 95 Jeep Cherokee Country Rwd

I need help I have a 95 Jeep Cherokee Country Rwd 4.0 automatic transmission 4door. When I put it into drive it takes a lot of acceleration to get it going especially up hills I usually have to put into 1 and shift through that way to get it up any incline. So when I’m in park and shift it into drive and hit the gas it’s almost feels like the emergency brake is holding it still but all the other gears like reverse and 1,2,3 are just fine PLEASE HELP ME!! I’m new to jeeps

Sounds like the trans is not down shifting into 1st gear. When the solenoids fail this is one symptom. The solenoids are located inside the trans accessed by removing the pan.

Yep, BTDT. Also, if you're only able to access 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears by shifting manually, it might be the transmission control unit.
