Ok I have a 95 jeep cherokee it takes about 5 to 10 seconds to crank over and if its under 20 degees out it wont start without starting fluid. Right after u start it u cant give it gas or it will stall but once it is warmed up it runs great with plenty of power. but it will somtimes stutter and throw a check engine light but it will go away if you shut it off. I think its a sensor but I was wondering what everyone elses thoughts were.

Sounds like your starter is going bad on you. Shot in the dark though but this is also happening to my dads 95 XJ Sport. When its cold outside it will take him a couple of cranks to start it but if not he has to take a hammer and TAP the starter or alternator. After it starts it runs fine but I havent heard of his throwing check engine.

I dont know if its true for Jeeps but Ive known a cummins deisal, the oil in it froze up some how so it didnt start up. The truck was a Dodge 2500 Cummins deisal with a super turbo. You have to plug those in on an exstension line.

Hi. Cant be the starter. All the starter does is spin the motor which is not your problem. Once the motor starts you could remove the starter and it would continue to run. It sounds more like a sensor. May be a coolant temperature sensor.

Thanks for the suggestions the coolant sensor isn't that expensive Ill probably start with that. But I don't think its that because the coolant reads right about ware it should be but who knows
