96 jeep cherokee suspension
hello everyone, so i have this small problem which is annoying and dangerous at the same time. The suspension on my car gives out whenever i hit or pass over a bump. Depending on the size of the bump, the sound varies. There have been times where i've hit a bump and my car has jumped a couple of feet to either the left or the right. I've changed multiple parts that deal with the suspension throughout the years. The last two things I changed were all four joins, and i replaced the shocks on the front and back. Any sugguestions?

Ive had that, i replaced the track bar as well, and it helped to an extent, but then i went and had my tires rebalanced, rotated, and aligned, and it was all better.

Is your Jeep stock? Does it have 12"s of lift?
Can you supply more details?
I'd guess it's lifted, your steering angles are horrible and you have major bump steer. That's just a guess. Waiting on details.

Hmmm,
Things to check:
Tie Rod ends
Control arm bushings
trac bar bushings
amongst other things I'm thinking it is pointless to list.
Has it recently started doing this or has it always?

And the allignment on my car is totally off. Ive taken it to more than one place and they never seem to get it right. I've had it aligned manually, and with the machine. Still no help. Last mechanic that did it said there was "some play in my steering box". I didn't know exactly what that meant so I slowly gave up on the alligent. Then they went on to say to switch the tires around, maybe that'll help. That didn't help either. I basically drive with the steering wheel at an angle now. Holding the steering wheel directly in the middle will cause the car to either slightly drift to the left or to the right.

There is also a bubbling sound I here while I hold the break. It's nOt constant. It cOmes and goes. The bubbling persists when I hit the gas, then it'll stop after a couple of seconds. Anyone can take a guess what that could be? I know she has a lOt of problems, but my baby never lets me down! She's only has 148,000 and she is still going strong!

Well, it sounds like you answered your own question.
Any slop in the steering system would cause this. "Play" in the steering gear would certainly cause this.
Have the steering gear replaced then realign.

Could be bubbles going through the heater core.
I don't think its related to the suspension, maybe start a new thread about that problem since they seem to be two different issues...

Lowend suggested replacing the steering gear/box. i'm curious if anyone trying to avoid the $300 punch, has fiddled with getting the play out themself?
any success?
is this too presicion of a task for a noob to attempt?
i havent picked up a 0-x in.lb torque wrench yet, but if thats going to be the more efficiant route...
